Mathematical Art and Visualization

Project type

Mathematical Art and Visualization Project

Date

January 2020

Location

Phuket, Thailand

Role

Personal Individual

Growing up with video games, especially Nintendo, sparked much of my creativity. This piece, created entirely using mathematical functions, is a nod to The Legend of Zelda and its iconic character, Link, who symbolizes curiosity and adventure. By combining mathematics and creative design, I plotted a variety of functions on a Cartesian plane to generate a recognizable artistic figure. This project reflects my love for storytelling and highlights the unique intersection of math and art that has shaped my artistic journey.

Types of functions used:
Quadratic: For parabolic curves (face outline).
Square Root: For gradual, sloped curves (hair).
Trigonometric (Sine): For oscillating patterns (details of the hair).
Implicit Equations (Ellipses): For circular or oval shapes (eyes).
Higher-Order Polynomials: For sharper, more precise features (jaw and collar).
